a bit o' Bosch: The Temptation of St. Anthony (Kansas City)

This is the only one of the bunch that doesn't have a landscape background, almost like it's cropped down from a larger painting. Was it? I have no idea--I'm not looking up anything as I do these little commentaries. It's just me staring at the paintings until my eyes and brain start to go fuzzy.

I like all the little funky dudes here--spoonbill guy sitting so politely at a floating table with his meal of beer, bread, and a chicken's foot; Mr. Funnel with his tiny sword and buckler and rope (presumably to pull him back to safety if the fight goes badly); a delightful, normal turtle; a fox-faced babushka; the frog watching Mr. Funnel battle the walking fish... They're all just doing their own weird things while St. Anthony collects some water.

(Any bets on who the winner of Mr. Funnel vs. walking fish is?)
