The thing is, no one knows when they'll be called on to be a hero, or in what way. But each story we read or watch, friend we spend time with, habit we build or break--all these small, seemingly innocuous choices give us a store from which we can draw upon in times of great need, whether it be our need or others'.
I'm going to try, at least for the rest of this month, to fill my mind and heart with only those stories and people that will strengthen my ability to run towards those in danger. So that when, if the time comes, afterwards I will be able to say with so many of those interviewed, "how could I not help? I had no other choice if I wanted to remain myself." I challenge you to do the same.
