The state of things

Been better, been worse. Dog's maturing rapidly, but can still be an absolute bother just as I'm getting into a groove for work. Is quite solidly in the "so fluffy I'm gonna die" category of dogs, though he won't let me brush his chest, belly, or front legs. Finger-combing is keeping them from becoming a complete nightmare, at least.

Work, on the other hand, is kind of a nightmare at the moment. Definitely struggling with a deep feeling of futility, given how things keep piling up. Talk about the tyranny of the urgent; the Eisenhower square gets you only so far when your supervisors are calling the shots about which projects get first priority. At least I got verbal confirmation from the school's president that they'd overloaded me over the last couple of months and will try not to do it again, though that does nothing for the current backlog staring me in the face. I'll get through it, I always do--just a matter of plugging away at it until you finally catch up. But September's going to be a bit stressful, I fear.

I've been spending a fair chunk of my free time mucking about with (basic) video editing and thumbnails and such for the gaming org I've been hanging out with since the beginning of the year--they asked if I'd help out that way and I said "sure!" on the theory that I'd need the experience for work at some point. (The project that took up all my time the last 6 weeks or so would've been even more crazy if I hadn't had that experience, so well done, past self.) Helped out with a video demo last week, even. So if you've ever wondered what I sound like, here I am, providing a basic introduction to using turret guns in Star Citizen:

Garden is currently overflowing with tomatoes and basil; potatoes look like they'll give us a good crop this year; asparagus might actually be worth harvesting next year (finally!). Onions and garlic are a bit of a swing and a miss, but we probably got them in too late. (I was a bit distracted by the lack of sleep thanks to the puppy.)

Writing and drawing have taken a back burner this summer, thought I definitely want/need to restart both. The main thing, I think, is balancing much-needed (online) social time vs. the alone time needed to create things. Still figuring that out, but now that the dog's not eating up all my free time, it's actually possible again.

Blogging may be a bit erratic this month, but I'm going to do my best to keep things going, and to get started on the backlog of comments. I've definitely missed having this as a regular part of my life. Glad to "see" you all again. :)
