I'm tempted to say "Dead in the Water" just because I've watched it so many times while zmediaoutlet and I were working on ch. 3 of In a Cursed Hour--though I do also love the visuals, and the glimpse it gives us into everything that Dean's trying to hard to hide about himself, the soft places under his seeming armor. "In the Beginning" is another great one--our first time-travel episode, and the show knocks it out of the park. Guess I'll have to decide when this poll actually goes live....

ETA: Okay, so I goofed, and 3.03 is Bad Day at Bad Rock, not "The Kids Are Alright". I can't edit the poll code anymore, so just go ahead and vote for "The Kids Are Alright" if you mean "Bad Day at Bad Rock", which is what I'm going to do.

Dang, I just saw the correction. Would definite vote for Bad Day at Black Rock. The humor is so well written and Jared's physical comedy and Jensen's reactions to it are priceless. Crazy Prison Gordon thinking Sam is the Antichrist when he can't even stand upright? Plus we get Kubrick and the Jesus RV.

Got a soft spot for Free to Be You and Me though. The opening scenes that switch between Sam and Dean going about their jobs is a nice piece of storytelling, and Lucifer's appearance in Sam's dreams reaches the pinnacle of creepiness when he says "I'd just bring you back".
Ye--and then there's the underlying horror of BDaBR, in that all of Sam's competency is stripped from him, and every action he tries to take to protect himself goes dramatically awry. Even just sitting in a chair in the middle of an empty room isn't safe.

And so much creepy in FtBYaM! Contrasts very effectively with the flat mundanity of Sam's life as a bar help.
I'm such a sucker for time travel episodes! Plus delving into the Winchester family story. I love young Mary, who just wants to get out of the hunting life (and away from her creepy, controlling father!) Azazel possessing Samuel and sniffing Dean will always be one of those intensely horrific moments in the show for me, like the moment he kisses Mary to seal the deal for John's life (and the fate of Sam & Dean). Just ugh!
Azazel is super-creepy in this episode for sure--and it was a great way for them to open up the possibility of time travel, which they've used pretty well across the seasons. Who could've guessed that from the first season, eh?
It's Soul Survivor for me, I just loved the whole scene with Dean hunting Sam through the Bunker corridors and trying to attack him with the hammer! But 'In The Beginning' and 'Bad Day at Black Rock' tie for me in second place. It was lovely to meet young John and Mary (and therefore the lovely Matt Cohen!), I also loved all the 'Back to the Future' references! It was perfect SPN - funny, intriguing, moving and angsty. Then 'Bad Day...' with Sam losing his shoe was just classic!
Until I read the description, I'd forgotten what "Bad Day At Black Rock" was about. The whole Kubrick/Gordon arc was made of win.

However, "The Third Man" was the one I watched over and over.
Bad Day at Black Rock for me, all the way! The lost shoe is such a classic and it was the first I noticed how amazing Jared is at physical comedy.
I pretty much love all these options, but I went with "In The Beginning". John and Mary young and in love, Dean checking Mary out (and his dry-wit realization about the possible consequences XD), how the Impala became the Winchester family carriage, all the little references to the first "Back To The Future" movie. And of course the whole beginning of the fateful Yellow Eyes story arc. Bonus: Dean in a priest outfit, and the tearful warning he has for Mary about a certain date...

Honorable mentions:

- Dead In The Water: Dean in the beginning at the diner, checking out the waitress and giving Sam his definition of "fun"
- Soul Survivor: Demon!Dean in that red shirt, and hunting Sam through the bunker
- Bad Day At Black Rock: "I lost my shoe" - 'nuff said! + Dean's eyeroll at that
- Free To Be You And Me: "Eat it, twilight" - still one of the best D.W. one-liners! Plus Cas starting the running gag of turning the FBI badge on its head.
- The Third Man: aka the end of Sam's own vehicle ;)
- Heartache: hello, Papa Ackles!
Early season 7 rocks!

I voted The Girl Next Door, because it gave me Amy, my favorite one-shot character, plus a fascinating moral dilemma. Plus I've written two pieces of fanfic about Amy and Jacob!
It really is an interesting moral dilemma--and that scene when Jacob comes in and sees Dean with his dead mother...
I'm the one who voted for Bloodlust. I waffled between this and Bad Day. The policeman (sheriff?) in the beginning always makes me laugh. "Cause that's what gravity does". And the whole gray area, only Dean gets to call Sam Sammy, Dean running Gordon's head into the wall ("Sorry"). I thought it was a strong ep.
Bad Day at Black Rock has the best humor and one liners. Very memorable!
