Blood and guts and other things

Over the years, Supernatural has broadened its scope from "a new horror movie every week" to leprechauns and time travel--but I thought it would be fun to revisit its original genre.

I think this is the first SPN vid that ever got rec'd to me, and probably remains the most effective of the 'horror' style vids I've seen. Definitely not for the squeamish.

Everything's spookier in black and white, especially with the occasional red highlight.

Not exactly horror, but definitely grim. Another interesting use of black and white.

A more psychological kind of horror: Dean and his relationship to alcohol over the years.

A question to you all--several years ago, when I was in the process of rediscovering Supernatural, one of the early vids I came across was one centered on "Head of a Pin" and Dean torturing Alistair. As I recall, it was fairly simple editing, with a monologue voice-over from some other source--not the show. If this rings any sort of bells, could you give me a link? It would be interesting to watch it again and see if it still packs the same impact now.

That first one--holy crap! Really well done, and scary!

One of the things I love about this show, which vidders point out just by virtue of the variety in their tones and subjects, is the wealth of ideas it contains--humor to horror, psychology to philosophy, meta wackiness to realism.

Thanks for sharing these amazing videos and screenshot collections!
a) Yes--it's what keeps the show interesting, and what gives all us fan creators (of various sorts) so much fodder to play with.

b) Glad you're enjoying them! I have all this stuff sitting around, saved, figured it might be worth sharing with you all. I probably have another couple month's worth of vids--and the screen shots will go on for a very long time, given how many thousands of them I have saved on my hard drive. :D
