End of year fic-writer ask meme

Actually got some writing done in 2017, so I thought this might be worth doing (for a change).

  1. What’s your personal favourite thing you wrote this past year?

  2. What’s your least favourite thing you wrote this past year?

  3. Which of your fics was most different from what you usually write?

  4. Which of your fics this past year was most successful?

  5. Which of your fics do you wish was more successful?

  6. What’s your favourite piece of dialogue you wrote this past year?

  7. What’s your favourite piece of description or narration?

  8. Which fic this past year was most fun to write?

  9. If you could go back and change something about one of the fics you wrote this past year, what would it be?

  10. What, if anything, are you going to try to do differently in your writing in the new year?

zmediaoutlet asked for 3 & 6:

3. Which of your fics was most different from what you usually write? Absolutely, hands-down it's Evil That Walks Invisible. a) it's super-long, and I never get past the 5,000 word mark on anything, left to my own devices, and b) it's a collaborative project, and I never do those. Though this one's been much fun, so far. :)

6. What’s your favourite piece of dialogue you wrote this past year? I'm going to leave ETWI out of it, as it's so long and there's lots of bits and pieces of it that I love, but I can't recall just off the top of my head. But I dearly love the timestamp for "In a Week"--I think it sounds like how close siblings talk with each other, and Dean's preoccupation with the deterioration of the Impala just seems right and almost happy in its own way. No real angst, just ... death fluff.

wetsammy asked for 5 & 7:

5. Which of your fics do you wish was more successful? Oh, 100% Evil That Walks Invisible. And I'd be saying that even if I wasn't involved in writing it, I think. I love "change one things" AUs that take their premise seriously and avoid cheating on it just because they want to indulge in tropes. So many of them go off the rails because they become distracted by building their own alternate world--but the whole point of ETWI for us is to stay as closely tied to canon as possible.

(Even if we will be using our godlike author powers to shoehorn in Frank as an alternate Bobby.)

7. What’s your favourite piece of description or narration? Again, I'm going to leave aside ETWI because it's too dang big to comb through while at work. There are a few of them that I'm really pleased with, but the winner is probably Ship In Harbor. I like how it sounds, if that makes sense. It 'tastes' good when I reread it.
