in which a cultural divide is bridged

We have a fair number of Korean students at the school where I work, and earlier this week one of them asked me if I'd ever had a Korean snack. I said yes, as I had, thanks to the Korean high school student my family hosted for several years. Based on that experience, I was expecting to be presented with something along the lines of the lemon-menthol sweets or pumpkin chews he'd given us.

Instead, the gentleman who'd asked (apparently surprised by my answer, but pleasantly so) offered me what could have been a moon pie if not for the packaging (which was entirely in English).

There's probably a lesson in that, although maybe it's just that sweet-tooths are universal.
