science fiction

5 things the doctor has an irrational fear of (and maybe one of them isn't so irrational after all)

from kriadydragon's prompt (would be longer, but I got sucked into the mentalist and am doing this last-minute before bed)

1. The Brivgarian equivalent of the mouse—eight legs, bright purple, and has highly specific nutritional needs that prevent it from colonizing any other worlds (thank goodness). And that’s all I’m going to tell you, so don’t even bother asking.

2. The public restrooms of Vernur 5—Jack, stop laughing. They have buttons and tubes and things (horrible, awful things), and give the impression that if you sneeze at them wrong, you might end up somewhere you’d really rather not be.

3. Blue things that jiggle. I don’t think anything more needs to be said.

4. Tuesdays in March. They always feel like something unimaginably terrible is going to happen. Never has, but that can’t continue forever.

5. Being alone.

He’ll never tell any of them this, but on the rare occasions when he sleeps, he’s almost always hurled back into wakefulness by a nightmare—the same one every time: that no matter where or when he goes there’s no one there.
